Janice Yoder Smith

As an educator for thirty plus years, Dr. Janice Smith is the epitome of a leader. Dr. Smith has served the Fort Worth community since 1994 as a Biology Professor, Department Chair and Dean of Math & Science at Tarrant County College. As an administrator she has motivated, supported and coordinated campus and collegewide teams focused on student success. She has served as a judge with First LEGO League and Robotic competitions in the Metroplex, participating in SER Corporation Community STEM Day serving almost 2,000 middle/high school students, extensive work with American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) developing National Science Foundation mentoring programs and working with science faculty to host students participating in the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Research Academy. Dean Smith is also a contributing member of the Fort Worth Regional Science and Engineering Fair, helped Tarrant County College develop a Science Lab Continuity Plan, and participated in the STEM Virtual Conference during COVID. Beyond these accomplishments, Dr. Smith is also won the TCCD Chancellor's Award for Exemplary Teaching in 2005, successfully graduated in the 2012-2013 CLARA Cohort and serves on the CLARA Advisory Board. Dr. Smith believes the CLARA program was career and life changing for her.
