Getting Started Off On The Right Foot: Day 1 Diagnostics and Offering Blended Courses Requiring Fewer Steps to Success

Session Description

Do you see students struggling with stepping on the right math pathway? Grayson College is using diagnostic tools to help students select appropriate pathway from the beginning and incorporate advising throughout the course to successful to completion.

Session Goals

We plan to share one strategy Grayson College has chosen to assist and advise under-prepared students. Under-prepared students have the opportunity to accurately assess their strengths and weaknesses. We also want to share data we have received as well as obstacles that have been encountered during initial implementation.

Full Description

Faculty and administrators will be able to see how initial diagnostics are used in the advising process for students to become successful in their math pathway. We will share ideas how to help under-prepared students without adding more material to an already content intense semester. We will describe our journey of selecting ways to advise under-prepared students. We will share the success rates of classes since we implemented diagnostics and embedded advising. We will also lead discussions with the participants of additional ideas and strategies for helping these under-prepared students succeed.
