Session Description

Please join us for an interactive presentation of ways we can help first-generation students and students from historically under-served populations become more successful learners. We will discuss teaching strategies, resources, and growth mindset.

Session Goals

Attendees will learn strategies to build classroom structures and expectations that offer first generation college students and students from historically under-served populations gain confidence and create success.

Full Description

We will discuss teaching strategies, resources, and growth mindset with a specific eye toward our students who are first-generation college attenders and/or from historically under-served populations. Specifically, with regard to teaching strategies, we will discuss teambuilding, facilitation of discussions, and the 10-2 teaching method, among others. We will discuss student use of college resources, ways to inform students and encourage them to take advantage of the services. Services include tutoring, Counseling, Career Services, etc. Lastly, I will lead a discussion on encouraging our students to develop a growth mindset and the means through which this can happen.
