In this session, we will recognize and help grow your own soft skills for use in the classroom. Research and experience show that effective classroom management includes application of marketable skills that a student may gain and carry with them into the professional world.
Creating a Classroom Culture of Respect and Listening

Dr. Basima Shaheen – English Instructor
Drs. Basima Shaheen and Mike Itashiki will present a panel discussion on “Creating a Classroom Culture of Respect and Listening”. The panel will discuss: why it is necessary to create a classroom culture of respect and listening, who benefits from it, what are the causes of disrespect in our classrooms, methods of creating this culture, managing incidents of disrespect and finally, to bring out other cultural experiences and examples of classroom respect.

Faculty Study Grants: Innovation Incubators
Dr. Jennifer Corder, Drama Instructor Hill College
Faculty Study Grants at Hill College give faculty the chance to explore their teaching area in unique and innovative ways. This session will focus on finding opportunities, the internal grant process at Hill College, fulfilling the grant, and the impact in the classroom on teaching and learning and on the instructor.
Integrating Financial Literacy in Classroom Assignments
Mrs. Delight Justice, Speech Instructor Hill College
Hill College chose Financial Literacy as the QEP project for the next several years. Faculty learning communities worked together to build curriculum for 10 core classes. Examples of class work and outcomes will be shared during this session.
