Morning Session

Dr. Maureen McGuinness, Dean of Students and Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs, University of North Texas
According to the Chronicle of Higher Education, as of 2018, the government has conducted 458 investigations of colleges for possibly mishandling reports of sexual violence. So far, 121 cases have been resolved and 337 remain open. Dr. McGuinness will review current and recent high profile cases such as Baylor University and Michigan State Gymnastics and the implications for colleges and universities.

Afternoon Session

Activity 1: Mock Interview
Attendees will be able to participate in a mock interview exercise of a sample Title IX Investigation and develop interview questions for both the complainant and the respondent in the case.
1:45pm-2:45pm
Activity 2: Case Study Review
Attendees will review various case studies in a round table session. Groups will collaborate and share ideas for responding appropriately to reports of sexual misconduct, conducting fair and balanced Title IX investigations and ensuring due process for the respondent.
